Local Whole Food Market: Pricey, but Great

At your local whole food market you may find healthy nuts, grains, seeds, organically grown vegetables, meat and fish, fruits, and lot's more.

There are several whole food market shopping places in the Atlanta (Georgia) area where I live. Mostly I shop at the Dekalb Farmer's Market and Harry's Whole Foods. Whole Foods Market in many major cities in America.

What's more important is not the name of the store or market, per se, but that you find what you want at reasonable prices. So...

What do I buy at my local whole food market?

Mostly I try to find foods and food supplements that are not readily available at the local market or supermarket. I just have a coffee (nut) grinder ready for crushing many of these breakfast cereal enhancers:

Nuts, Grains, and Seeds:
-- Pumpkin seeds - good for prostate health, good source of fiber and antioxidants. You can get these at about $2/pound.

-- Flax seed - also at about $2 for 16 ozs. I include this nutritious food supplement for the omega-3 acids, and colon health which it promotes. Flax helps keep your bowel smooth and clean.

-- Sesame Seeds - Need a healthy source of iron? Pick up some sesame seeds at your local whole food market. Even though it is said that you may test positive for heroin (on a urine drug test) after eating it, there is also the added benefit of improved sexual health.

-- Sunflower seeds, Cashews, and other Nuts - It's OK to go nuts over these healthy goodies. Nuts are good sources of good protein, dietary fiber, and good fats. They often get ignored, but these foods should be part of our daily diet.

-- Organically grown produce - You can find these in abundance at these specialty stores. Things are a bit more pricey as you might expect.

Nutritionists have studied these foods and have tried to mimic their nutritional value by creating many nutritional supplements that you see on the shelves today.

Avoid the concoctions if at all possible. It's not easy to even imitate the prostate health a man gets from the use of lightly toasted pumpkin seeds.

These are super rich foods that can be added to breakfast cereal. They are packaged by nature for you - they cannot be improved upon.

Nutritional supplements:

  • Nutritional Yeast Flakes - This is another item from my local whole food market. It is a rich source of Vitamin B-12 (plant based).
  • Golden Seal Echinacea - This is immune system boosting food supplement. I learned that at the onset of a cold or flu, using just 60 drops from a pipette in a small amount of water can do a lot for adults and children in helping the body to arrest the infection.
  • Nutritional supplements for diabetes - At your local whole food market, you might find useful herbal products such as Gymnema Sylvestre, Chromium (I use GTF Chromium 4000 - a natural and bioavailable source), Fenugreek, Ginseng and other useful herbs and extracts.

Whole food stores are like specialty stores nowadays and can get very pricey. Be a good shopper. At the same time, you can't put a price on health. Considering that many people pay a whole lot for a lot less, there can be some consolation that good food sometimes costs a good bit of money.

On this site, I have included a list of herbal supplements available at any whole food market; except for Milagro de la Selva. These are great dietary supplements for type 2 diabetes. It would be worth your while to take a look.
