Type 2 Diabetes: Cause to Cure
I've had it for several years now, so this is what it is. It is a metabolic and lifestyle-related disorder in which the body loses its ability to properly metabolize sugar or carbohydrates. More specifically, it is either one, or a combination, of these two related scenarios:
- Insulin resistance - in which case, the body produces insulin, but does not respond adequately to its presense. This means the transfer of glucose into the cells is affected. As a result, the concentration of blood sugar increases beyond normal levels.
- Insulin deficiency - the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, so there is not enough to transport the glucose in the blood to body cells. Hence the blood concentration of glucose increases abnormally.
Type 2 diabetes is different from type 1 diabetes in which the body loses its ability to produce it's own insulin. The result is the same - unusually high concentrations of glucose in the blood - but type 2 is more related to lifestyle factors, and until recently, usually develop mostly in adults.
- adult onset diabetes
- non insulin-dependent diabetes
- sugar diabetes
- diabetes melitus
What causes type 2 diabetes?
According to the American Diabetes Association, the cause of diabetes is a "mystery", but "genetics and environmental factors" play a role. Whatever the cause of diabetes, the good news is that both those with type 1 diabetes and those with type 2 diabetes benefit significantly from making simple lifestyle changes which help the body overcome the insulin resistance syndrome. See article to find out what causes type 2 diabetes. Symptoms of type 2 diabetes
The signs and symptoms of type 2 diabetes develop slowly AND are often mistaken, even by medical professionals, as something else. However, most of these symptoms can be overcome by making simple changes (or choices) that allow your body to cooperate with its natural healing processes. Read more about these symptoms of type 2 diabetes that are often passed off as routine discomforts.
Statistics on diabetes
The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is alarming. It seems the more we know about the disease the more people are developing this disease. Does this suggest that it may have to do with our behavior (lifestyle habits) than with anything else?
Not only are more adults developing type 2 diabetes, but this condition - once relegated to adults - now inflict children and teens at an alarming rate.
Cure for diabetes
The medical professionals are quick to tell that there is no cure for diabetes - at least not yet! However, anyone can reverse, delay, or prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes by having an anti-diabetic diet and lifestyle. If you have type 2 diabetes, or if you are "predisposed", you can benefit significantly.
My doctor threatened to put me on insulin a few years ago. Now I don't even go near synthetic medication - no pills! I eat like a king - good carbs and all, and my A1c is in the normal, non-diabetic range!
Controlling diabetes with diet
It is easy to be misled into believing that since diabetes is essentially a problem with the assimilation of glucose we can help the situation by controling glucose intake. While this is true to some extent, that is not even "half the story."
I have been controlling diabetes with diet for some time now but what does that mean? I do eat much more carbohydrates now - very much more than what was recommended when I was put on the common diabetic diet recommended by the American Diabetes Association. Find out how the anti-diabetes diet helps control diabetes, and more!
How to lower blood sugar
If you are a new-diagnosed diabetic, one of your troubling questions will be about how to lower your blood sugar. We need to know what is happening in our bodies at the cellular level, then take steps to help our bodies heal. In this way we can wean ourselves gradually from synthetic medications and avoid their debilitating side effects.
Herbal cure for diabetes
Is there a herbal cure for diabetes? What is cure any way? In this article, I share my experiences with using natural food products that really helped me "get over the hump". Take a glimpse at the drama between naturapathy and traditional medicine and ask yourself, "Who really needs a cure anyway except the diabetic himself?"

Did You Know That?
Sleep deprivation affects glucose metabolism, and that prolonged lack of proper sleep can cause development of diabetes symptoms. An article published in 2008 in Biological Research For Nursing said, "sleep affects diabetes and diabetes affects sleep."
The articles you will find on this site will give you useful information on how diet, rest (including sleep patterns), exercise, other factors affect type 2 diabetes and related diseases, such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Be warned though that, in some cases, putting these healthy bits of information into practice could cause you to lose your medication. It happened to me; and I like it!
