Benefits of Low Calorie and Vegetarian Recipes

What do you stand to benefit from the use of low calorie and vegetarian recipes in your diet? Tangible benefits include the following:

  • lower your cholesterol intake
  • improve cardiovascular health
  • control diabetic condition
  • reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes
  • improved weight control
  • actually lose weight if you are overweight
  • increase the chance of living longer and healthier

There are many similar perks to be derived from incorporating low calorie and vegetarian recipes in the diet. There is just one caveat that needs mentioning.

Low calorie is not vegetarian

Low calorie foods and vegetarian  foods are not necessarily the same, however. Most strict vegetarian do not need low calorie recipes. Strict vegetarian recipes can be high calorie and non-fattening at the same. Why?

The vegetarian diet is usually high in fiber and complex carbohydrates. We really may not need to use low calorie and vegetarian recipes to get the above health benefits - simply vegetarian does it.

This is important too. Use of diet (or recipes) alone will not guarantee health; no matter how "healthy" the recipes. A proper balance of all contributing factors makes a healthier you.

Low calorie and vegetarian recipes have been cited as being important in weight loss efforts. However, calorie restriction does not constitute a permanent solution to weight control, a lifestyle modification does.

If you don't plan to spend the rest of your life eating low calorie foods then a more permanent solution to weight control would be the anti-diabetes diet and regular exercise.

Try some of my favorite recipes. They are vegetarian or plant-based, low fat, and no cholesterol. However, they are not all of low caloric value, so if you are on restricted calorie diet you should count carefully.
