What is the best diabetes diet and why is it unpopular?
Diabetes caregivers will all agree on what the best diabetes diet should be able to do for the diabetic. However, there is not much agreement when it comes to saying what constitutes such a diet. Why?.
Let's briefly look at what may be expected of such a diet:
-- help lower blood sugar
-- help maintain normal body weight, and
-- limit foods that contribute to the development of the disease

In addition, the best diabetes diet should prevent development of other health problems (or complications) AND help to reverse the diabetic syndrome. Experience has told me that the regular american diabetes diet does not do this.
Diabetes diet - a misnomer
So I have to question, "What do we mean when we talk about diabetes diet?" The American dinner table is littered with all sorts of confusing attempts and modifications of palate-pleasing, health-destroying eats. The so-called diabetes diet is just a modification of the same.
Actually, we all should be concerned about an anti-diabetes diet - a way of eating that:
-- fulfills all the above requirements, and
-- can be beneficial to the whole family.
In other words, the best diabetes diet should not be anti-diabetic, but anti-diabetes, in that it should help us maintain optimum health and prevent escallation and/or development of type 2 diabetes.
Most recommendations of a diabetes diet are simply alterations (exchanges or portions) of the same old diet that contributed to the disease in the first place. Apart from the inconvenience of "counting your carbs," I've found that this diet leads to bad eating habits as well.
Popular treatment recommends you keep on eating the same foods that wrecked your health in the first place. Some of the drug makers will be quick to tell you that having diabetes doesn't mean you will need to give up enjoyable and delicious food. Of course not! If you did, there is a chance you may not need their drugs very soon!
There is one article I came across almost shares my view of the best diabetes diet but without actually naming the idea of an anti-diabetes diet and lifestyle.
I sincerely believe the anti-diabetes diet is the way we humans were made to eat.
